The Sinking Creek Mission Team arrived in Montego Bay, Jamaica in January of 2008. Teaming up with Ms. Bev and Fresh Bread Ministries the group travel through small towns and villages. The trip was a very humbling and blessed experience. Our team shared the gospel in schools, children's homes, detention center, hospice homes, hospitals and in the small towns. We were blessed to pray with and witness 72 people new christians proclaim Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
The Oldest Church in the State of Tennessee
Sinking Creek Baptist Church is named for a tributary of the Watauga River. It is located on the Old Elizabethton to Johnson City Highway in Carter County. It is the oldest church of any faith in the state of Tennessee still in existence at its original location. It was organinzed 1772 in Washington County (now Carter County). Matthew Talbot was the first pastor. Worship services have continued through the years except during the Civil War from 1861 to 1865.

Sinking Creek Baptist Church is the oldest Church of any faith in the state of Tennessee. It was founded in 1772 and is listed in the Tennessee Historical Registry.
Pastor Reece Harris was called to Sinking Creek in 1961. And what a blessing he has been. Under his leadership for the past 47 years, we have experienced unprecedented growth, and we are still growing!
